چکیده
Statement of Problem: Bruxism is an oral habit consisting of involuntary rhythmic or spasmodic nonfunctional gnashing, grinding, or clenching of teeth, in other than chewing movements of the mandible, which may lead to occlusal trauma, tooth wear and fracture of the teeth. It would be useful to determine the relationship between occlusal interferences and bruxism in order to prevent its development by occlusal interference adjustment. Purpose: This study evaluates the relationship between occlusal interferences and bruxism. Materials and Methods: For this study, 59 subjects (22 males and 37 females) including 28 bruxers and 31 nonbruxers were selected after filling a questionnaire based on the exclusion criteria. Occlusal interferences in the centric relation and eccentric movements in the two groups were evaluated and recorded. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (Version 16) using Chi-square test. Results: The results showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between bruxism and protrusive interferences ( p <0.05) while there was no statistically significant relationship in the centric relation and other eccentric movements ( p >0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, due to the relationship between some types of occlusal interferences (protrusive interferences) and bruxism, it would be useful to examine occlusal contacts in bruxing patients to eliminate probable causative or contributing occlusal factors.

AIM This study evaluates the relationship between occlusal interferences and premature contacts and bruxism by determining the relationship between unassisted and assisted nonworking interferences. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study, 60 subjects (14 males and 46 females) that consisted of 30 bruxers (7 males, 23 females) and 30 nonbruxers (7 males, 23 females) were selected after completion ...
متن کاملThe relationship between bruxism and occlusal factors among seven- to 19-year-old Turkish children.
The aim of this study was (1) to investigate the relationship between occlusal factors and bruxism among 965 Turkish subjects (472 boys and 493 girls) with a mean age of 12.8 years (range, seven to 19 years); and (2) to identify possible sex differences between girls and boys. This sample was divided into two groups of bruxers or nonbruxers based on a clinical examination and self-reports. The ...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Bruxism is defined as a habitual nonfunctional forceful contact between occlusal tooth surfaces. In younger children bruxism may be a consequence of the masticatory neuromuscular system immaturity. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of bruxism and investigate the relationship between occlusal factors and bruxism among preschool children. MATERIALS AND METHO...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Understanding is needed regarding the effect that occlusal interferences have on the teeth, periodontium, and especially on jaw function. PURPOSE This article summarizes research in which experimental occlusal interferences have been placed on the teeth of animals and human volunteers. MATERIAL AND METHODS Data from 18 human and 10 animals studies were reviewed. Experim...
متن کاملClinical Decision Support Model to Predict Occlusal Force in Bruxism Patients
Objectives The aim of this study was to develop a decision support model for the prediction of occlusal force from the size and color of articulating paper markings in bruxism patients. Methods We used the information from the datasets of 30 bruxism patients in which digital measurements of the size and color of articulating paper markings (12-µm Hanel; Coltene/Whaledent GmbH, Langenau, Germa...
